Electronics Cause Meeting 18 July 2017 - 8:30PM

Hey guys, I’d like to do these once a month so everyone knows where we’re at and we can vote in shiny new bits and pieces.

Agenda:

Modern Electronics Reflowr

I’d like to improve our ability to do single sided smd boards at the space and right now that’s fairly intimidating because you have to use the large reflow oven. Additionally right now the reflow oven is dead but @biki has volunteered to do a rebuild. In the meantime, it’d be nice for us to have a smaller solution for typical sized boards that you see around the space and I’d like for us to purchase this unit https://www.tindie.com/products/LafrasH/modern-electronics-reflowr/

It will allow us to do 3 50x50mm boards at once and is a pretty simple push button recieve reflow style dealie. This would allow us to really simply do smd reflow workshops and mesmerize people with how reflow works like this:

All up $197USD, comes with some paste, a squeegee and some tools as well as a couple of kits to test it with.

Electronics Bench Bays

In preparation for having the 2 bays with same/similar equipment, I’d like us to purchase some parts to make sure we have 2 each of the standard soldering irons, the metcal induction irons, hot air and potentially a desoldering iron at each bay.f

To fulfil this, we’ll need
Second Hot Air $59AUD- http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SMD-STATION-HOT-AIR-GUN-Desoldering-Solder-REWORK-3Nozzles-RHOS-Yihua-858D-AU-/162571655256?hash=item25da069858:g:OCsAAOSwAO9ZVdBq
2xHot Air Mats $13.20AUD - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/High-Temperature-Air-Gun-Repair-Station-Soldering-Maintenance-Pad-Mat-Silicone/182549732569?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140106155344%26meid%3Dcb5888713fd94c8ab87957fc9b319f2a%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D152610880126
Second Desoldering Station $165AUD - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Desoldering-Station-80W-Temperature-controlled-Vacuum-Suction-de-soldering-gun-/142158807551?hash=item21195341ff:g:iRcAAOSwcUBYS1iZ

We can vote on these separately but I’d prefer the hot air at least, we can defer the second desoldering station until the bays are up.

Electronics Bench accountability

I’d like to update where we’re at with this.
###Workshops
I’d like to talk again about setting some workshop dates in mud

It’s been suggested in slack that maybe we should get the bigger one, I’m happy to have us vote for the big one and then if that fails vote for the smaller one.

The larger one will be $357USD shipped.

Down the bottom of the link (above) there is a bigger one for $219. That seems quite adequate… Is that the one your referring to add the bigger one… Is shipping that expensive?

I’m keen to have one reflow oven and that one looks like it uses less power

I don’t think the extra parts that come with it are worth anything to us (PCB’s, solder paste, scraper).

I use a putty scraper from bunnings to apply solder paste.

And I have plent of PCB’s if you want to do reflow testing / classes with.
Most of them are from old designs so I would be more than happy to part with them.

Plus I will throw in some Mylar so you can cut your own stencils.
