Furniture advice!

Hey y’all!

I’m planning a new fit-out for my bedroom, but I seem to be able to find something wrong with everything I find at Ikea and the like. This might be called cabinetry, but I’m not sure. Anyway, I’ve looked at a few build logs and I think it’s achievable. Any and all tips/advice/traps for young players would be greatly appreciated!

Here’s a list of the stuff I’m planning to do:

  • Bedframe/headboard
  • Bedside table(s)
  • Wardrobe
  • Whiteboard stand(s)
  • Bookcase
  • Misc shelving

Obviously it’s a big list, and I’m not going to try and do it all at once. Plan is stain and varnish the wood. Find a cabinet-maker supplies store and get all the fittings that will be useful for any particular project.

Things that would be good to know are bedroom ergonomics.
How high should a bed be?
Should the bedside tables be higher, lower, the same height as the bed?
How close should bedside tables be to the bed?

All that kind of stuff.

Build ahoy!

As for my bedroom, knee height from floor to top of matress is a starting height. Nice to be resting bum on bed and feet in floor without knees being too high or dangling.

Having space under a bed is super useful for storing stuff.

Bed head, I don’t have one now. Use to have one before I moved to QLD, I didn’t find it much use. Usaly they are only small and and stuff fall off when doing acrobatics and jumping cos that’s what you do as children right?

Bed side table, I have a two level setup mostly because I’m a geek and I have a lot of electronics.
As such the first level is about 10cm above the bed, then back about 30 back to a rise of another 30 where I have a 6way power board mounted. So the cables drop from the powerboard onto the level below.
