  • Two Dishwashers

  • Keeping the coffee machines
  • Selling the coffee machines and getting and inexpensive pod machine.

I just mentioned the industrial dishwasher for the context on what I was describing. I was not suggesting buying one.

But one dishwasher with two interchangeable racks is really want I meant by that whole post.

The good reason is that this has literally NEVER WORKED for us previously. ever. in any capacity. not once. Your opinion does not trump my 10 years of being involved in this place. Every time we provide storage, it just collects bullshit. Every cabinet? full of bullshit. The only reason its not currently a problem is because we disposed of all the bullshit when covid hit so as not to deal with it and the health concerns. Sink always full of peoples dishes, the drying rack always overflowing and precariously stacked because everyone refuses to deal with it.

Whats the more complicated system? You take dishes from a cupboard, use them, wash them or put them in a dishwasher, then someone else has to come along later and empty the dishwasher of all the dishes that they had nothing to do with, and put them back away in the cabinet. I guarantee you, this wont happen. What will happen is people will be lazy and just put their dirty things on top of the clean things where theres a space and move on with their day.

The issue is the disconnect. the person making a dirty dish, and the person who puts everything back away in the cabinet, are different because of the time required to run the machine. That means you are relying on the generosity of the second person eternally. Historically, this person is a myth. Noone ever put dishes from the drying rack away.

At least if ‘away’ is a magical cupboard that can wash the dishes things get a little easier. And if going from ‘good enough’ to ‘ideal’ is shifting the dishes <1m to the left, i cant think of an easier workflow.

Historically speaking also, all drawers have been complete disasters everywhere else throughout the space. We also tried for a while to do shadowboards, where there were tool outlines. they were utter disasters also, i dont think they lasted a week, before people just threw whatever whereever. What did work is doing insert designs, which was started by me in the woodshop, and then you started doing it with foam inserts, and we saw work ok with bought foam inserts. This seems to work because theres nowhere else for that thing to go, and when its gone its obvious. Its not foolproof but its better.

This is why I am so against providing storage without purpose. Its just cubby holes for mess and bullshit. See literally any cupboard in the kitchen at the moment. If the storage is highly managed (like it is with foam inserts) then its more viable.

Mate, you’re being unreasonable. Kyia made a valuable suggestion and i responded and considered her idea. Thats called being collaborative. Noones going out to buy an industrial dishwasher, it was suggested, prices were looked into without judgement, the idea was left on its merits to see if anyone wants to advocate it with that information. Maybe this is a lost in translation thing.

Well, that would be your fault, because you are not willing to work with others. You are not communicating in a way that lets everyones ideas come forth and be properly considered, you’re just telling people that their ideas ‘dont bring any value to the space’.

Yes, yes i do. His name is Seamus. If you want to talk silly bullshit we can do that i guess.

Well, you’re the one proposing to spend all the money, and i’m the one advocating for using what we have. So i dont understand your point here. I’ve clearly said i’ll implement dishwashers, and i’m the one who has done all the work on the kitchen so far, and implemented the zip tap etc. You’re the one coming in and steamrolling over the existing plan, thats actively being worked on. And I’ve been gracious and trying to accomodate peoples input. So i think you’re being incredibly rude and unfair.

Ok, you’re right josh. You can coordinate with Dave the tasks that need to be done.

Just to understand, we used to have a diswasher?

It would be more welcoming. The entry isn’t just a transit for us, it’s the reception for tours, dignitaries , VIPs.

just a random ‘glass door’ fridge on gumtree
no idea if it fits the space requirements

I don’t even know what the requirements are any more. I think we should consult with a fueng shui-ologist

@Ale_More , @Ryan2 and I had a chat about this last night.

I think the plan is at this stage is that we will remove the cabinetry, put the sink etc up on sawhorses/temp support, install both dishwashers and run like that for a while and see what issues we run in to, if any. after a few months we can then lock in the layout. I think we’re all keen on one long bench with stuff under it that goes the entire wall. Just gotta figure out where the sink should be located, which will depend on what we can do wrt moving the sink drainage.

We talked about drawers/storage and agreed that we should make sure any drawers are setup in a way that they are ‘highly structured storage’ to stop them being filled with random nonsense.

It remains to be seen if anyone wants more kitchen facilities than just a microwave and boiling water, but we haven’t heard any loud voices saying they want more than that.

Re coffee machines etc, i’ll try and get the bugs out of the current one on the working bee, and we will put the second one away in cold storage as spare parts. If it cant be run appropriately, we can look at alternatives. @Ale_More said he would look into finding a company who we could lease the space to for a more modern machine. We all agreed trying to do anything where we have to manage perishable milk in the fridge is no go.

The vending machine locations. I’m proposing we move them to the green room on the working bee, for now, to see how much we love/hate that location while deciding on layouts. @Ale_More did mention he thinks we should sell the Vigo machine, but i’ll leave that up to him re agenda items etc.

Lastly, we talked about what to do wrt the mural. I committed to having a chat with Steph who painted it. I’ve done this and Steph is not stressed if we paint over it. So at this stage, the plan options are, in order of preference:

  1. Have someone whos keen to carefully paint around it.
  2. Cut it out of the wall and frame it as art for the space.
  3. Paint over it. Maybe get someone to do new art.

So I think thats where we are at at the moment.
