Our CAD PC has been a bit sad for its entire existence. It’s gotten to the point where its quite old and maybe not worth further saving. We don’t really have budget to go buy a computer thats any more powerful than cheap basic nucs, so we would like to see if we can make one or two desktops with donated parts from members.

If you have an old bit of hardware lying around you’re willing to donate, please say so in this thread and we will see if we can make a pc or two together!

We already have monitors, mice, keyboards etc.

We will need:

  • A Case
  • Motherboard
  • CPU
  • RAM
  • GPU

If we can keep parts within the last 5 years that would be great but its not a rule.

The higher spec we can dig up the better since this computer runs all the CAD/CAM software and needs a bit more grunt.

Sound off below if you have anything that can go to the cause!

I have a power supply.

I’ll see what I can find online at auction and may just buy a PC.

Alternatively I may be able to get a server very cheap and we can mod the case to use 120mm fans so it doesn’t sound like a jet.

I’ll do some looking around.

I think I have an old CPU that may go with DDR 3 but unsure if it will work with ECC RAM.

I have a small hp that with a new case to fit the gpu might work.
