Would there be interest in a plastic injection machine?

It’s me, an executive. Afaik we don’t have the room for it, you’d need to check with @Drew_Spriggs though.

its something that can be stuck out of the way in a container since it’s mostly self contained/doesn’t need active interaction with except for setup etc. only need the metal shop for making the molds themselves

I think you misunderstood me @nogthree , I am just gauging interest if there is some then we would have a conversation with executive’s. Yes @Wixted is correct it could be used like that, it doesn’t require constant interaction.

Anyway what im looking for is 3 or so commitments from people who are interested in running something like this?

I am willing to work to get this added.

I don’t know about my capablity to help but I am putting my name forward.

ok great do we have one more that may be interested?

I would like to have it at the space as well

Throwing in my 2c, I think it’d be a great addition - if we could get a workflow of casting blanks, to be machined in the CNC, and moulded using the injection moulding machine, it’d be end-to-end manufacturing of small plastic parts. 3d printing is fine, laser cut has limitations (limited to flat shapes and boxes) so it’d fill a gap.

Siridar, unless you are making a lot of one part then casting may be a better idea.

Injection molding has pretty high tooling cost relative to silicone molds. Casting makes a nice stop gap between 3D printing single pieces and injection molding 100’s

I think the injecting molding machine would be a great addition BTW.

3d printing is fine, but slow, is what I meant to say.

No misunderstanding from my side that I can see, you were gauging interest but interest is only half of the considerations you’d need.

Space is tight at HSBNE and I want to make sure that we’ve got the space for it before we accept it. People regularily bring things in that exceed our actual lease areas and/or play with floor space issues. (Someone even recently brought in an injection moulding machine that is now shuffling awkwardly around the metal shop as there’s not really space for it.)

I’m not sure if there will be floor space in a container as that’s about to be all rearranged and we need to consider that we do have a lot of large things to move close to the end of next year.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be interested in a machine like this but we need to make sure it’s all organised first.

So we need one more name and then maybe we can meet and have a chat about it?

Were going to meet up tonight at 7pm to have a chat about this anyone that can help (no skills required) is welcome to join

Are you here?

Hey I was down there at 8pm did you head home? sorry about that I was caught up in work . Did you plug in the hand injection molding machine?

Yes. I needed to head off at 7:30 and had not heard anything.

I did not know about the hand machine.
